Frequently asked questions
What is Buckaroo?
A chore chart and allowance tracker for families. Kids check off chores, finish full weeks and earn their allowance. Buckaroo keeps track of what's owed. It doesn't hold or move any money: you pay your kids yourself.
How does a full week work?
A full week means every chore was checked off every day, Sunday through Saturday. When the week is complete, that kid's weekly allowance is added to what they're owed on Saturday.
We forgot to check off chores. Can we fix it?
Yes. On the Chores tab, tap the back arrow next to the date to go back up to 7 days and check off what was done. For older days, open the Calendar tab and tap a past day to mark it done or not done.
What happens if we add or remove chores mid-week?
Days already recorded keep their results. Changes to the chore list apply from that day on.
Can I add money my kid got from a gift or job?
Yes. On the Money tab, use Add money to [name]'s savings. Enter the amount and what it's from, like a birthday gift. It's added to what you're holding for them, and if investing is on it grows like the rest.
How do I record a payment?
Open the Money tab, pick the kid, enter the amount you paid and tap Mark paid. The amount comes off what's owed and is added to the running total of payments. To undo a payment, tap the × next to it.
How does investing work?
In Settings, turn on Invest unpaid money for a kid and set a yearly rate. Money that hasn't been paid out grows a little every day (compounded daily). It's a pretend interest rate that you, the parent, agree to honor. It's not a real investment or bank account.
What happens if I change the allowance?
The new amount applies to weeks from that day on. Weeks already earned keep the amount they were worth.
Can a co-parent or caretaker see our family?
Yes. In Settings, under Family & caretakers, invite someone by name and phone or email. Buckaroo creates a code to send them. On their phone they open Buckaroo, tap Invited by a family? and enter it. Everyone in your family sees the same kids, chores, balances and payments.
Can my kids use Buckaroo on their own device?
Yes. In Settings, open your kid's card and tap Add a device. On their device, open Buckaroo, tap Joining as a kid? and enter the code. Kids don't need an account, email or phone number. You choose what they can do: View only, Ask to approve (they tap I did it and it counts once you OK it) or Trusted (their checkmarks count right away). You can remove a device at any time.
How do approvals work?
When a kid taps I did it, the chore shows as waiting on the Chores tab with a yellow dot on their name. Tap the check to approve or the × for Not yet, or tap Approve all. Only approved chores count toward a full week and allowance.
Where are my kids' photos kept?
Only on the phone where you added them. Photos are never uploaded or shared, so a co-parent or caretaker adds their own photo on their phone if they'd like one.
Is my family's information private?
We use your information only to run Buckaroo. We never sell it and there are no ads. Read the Privacy Policy for the details.
Deleting your account
You can delete your Buckaroo account at any time from inside the app:
- Open Buckaroo and go to Settings.
- Scroll to Account at the bottom and tap Delete account.
- Confirm. If you created the family, your account and all of your family's data (kids, chores, history, payments and caretaker invites) are permanently deleted. If you're a caretaker, your login is deleted and you're removed from the family.
